Imam Ibn Sirin

Dreams and Interpretations (Ibn Sireen, Hathurani tr.) · p. 30

For a musaafir (traveller) it symbolises fear and danger. And for a muqeem (one who is not on a journey) it symbolises hope. This is in view of the verse of the Holy Qur'aan: It is He (Allah) who shows you lightning as a means of instilling fear (in you, for, such a rain may turn out to be disastrous!) and as a means of instilling hope (in you, for, such a rain may be most fruitfull. It is said that lightning without rain symbolises impending disaster for both, a musaafir as well as muqeem. It is also said that lightning with rain symbolises cure and remedy for a sick person.
